Richly fruited and perfumed, the bouquet shows black/blueberry, game, spicy oak and dark chocolate characters, leading to a gorgeously flavoursome palate offering plump mouthfeel backed by silky tannins, finishing wonderfully long and delicious

A vibrant, glossy deep red with purple hues in terms of colour. There is the same lovely fruit driven primary aromatics consistent with the 2021 Gaelic Cemetery wines; with expansive red cherry and vibrant plum fruit has a veneer of spice on the nose. The wine glides across the palate with a cherry hubba bubba influence that is vibrant and pure. Tannins are fine and acidity flowing. Wonderful as a young wine and will grow well into more secondary, less vibrant expression in years to come

Beautiful colour in the glass. Lovely smell even without the need for a swirl. You can taste the alcohol at the start but this calms down after some time. Up front bite which rolls over the tongue and mellows to create some great length.

“We have been blessed with so many wonderful wines, red and white, from the superb 2021 vintage. If for any reason you have not stocked up on this vintage, now is the time and this would be a good start. It will sail through a decade, even more, in the cellar. An opaque purple colour, we have notes of aniseed, red fruits, leather, dry herbs and florals. There is a hint of orange rind as well. The palate moves to flavours such as plums, chocolate and cassis. There is good supporting acidity and the wine has serious length. A firm finish. This is a well-structured wine which will provide a great deal of pleasure both now and in the future.”

I love the fact that the Gaelic Cemetery wines are unafraid of tannin. All four of the reds tried today were dry and meaty with it. Here it feels a bit clumpy and hack-sawed but it still works well, in the context of a wealth of ferrous, plum-shot, blackberried fruit. Mint and clove notes complete a meaty, chewy, warm-hearted picture.
