GCV Celtic Farm Riesling

From a single estate vineyard in White Hut, planted 2006. Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard is unique in raising 4 distinct rieslings with essentially the same recipe from the same vineyard. This is the entry-level wine, from the youngest vines, with significantly larger production than the other 3 put together. This is a spicy, rich and concentrated style boasting a medium straw hue and custard apple and Golden Delicious apple ripeness contrasting lemon and lime tension. A dollop of RS (3.8g/L) serves to soften its phenolic grip nicely. Full and flavoursome, if not refined. Drink now. Tyson Stelzer Published 13 August 2021

Light yellow colour with golden reflections. The bouquet is rich and ripe, with elements of pineapple and lemon curd. A big-flavoured wine that avoids heaviness and instead offers generous flavour. Easy to love despite its youth.

This wine is made from select parcels of fruit drawn off the Gaelic Cemetery Estate vineyard which was planted in 1996 and showcases the superb purity and focus that have become the hallmarks of their wines. It’s pale in colour and already quite expressive and powerful despite its youth – pithy lime and bath salt scented fruits lead the way with an array of citrus tones also in play. The palate is more subdued with stony citrus flavours and well integrated acidity providing a long and silky finish that shows good balance and subtlety. It’s still a little closed and could do with a couple of years in bottle to build flavour when it will be perfect with salt and pepper calamari.
